Oshima is a Sapporo-style miso ramen specialist tucked into a residential stretch of Edogawa, an 8-minute walk southeast of Funabori Station. According to the official site, the owner trained for 12 years at a well-known Sapporo shop and opened here in May 2013 after receiving a noren-wake — permission from his master to open under the same name. nippon.com identifies that Sapporo shop as Sumire. There are 16 seats in all (8 at the counter, 8 at tables), and service ends when the broth runs out.

What kind of shop it is

The official site describes the motive for opening as wanting "as many people as possible to eat authentic Sapporo ramen," and sets out the aim as ramen "easy for anyone to eat" — rich and piping hot, yet with the aroma of miso coming through. The shop introduces its miso bowl as "our most popular item: a rich, orthodox Sapporo miso ramen."

nippon.com (April 2025) reports that its main characteristic is a technique of stir-frying the soup in a wok, a step said to draw out the aroma and depth of the miso. The article attributes Oshima's own twist to the garlic and ginger worked into the rich, Sumire-derived miso.

As for recognition, Kodansha's product listing for the 25th TRY Ramen Award 2024-2025 introduces Oshima as a "category hall-of-fame shop," and it was selected for Tabelog's Ramen TOKYO Hyakumeiten (Top 100) 2025.

What to order

Start with the miso ramen. nippon.com listed it at ¥1,200 as of April 2025. The shop-info panel on the official site still shows an average budget of "under ¥999," which appears to be out of step with actual prices; check the official site or X for the current figure.

The official X account (@funabori_oshima) announces that it sells takeaway frozen miso ramen (large portions available), a two-serving boxed ramen gift set, and Sumire All Stars cup noodles in the shop, and notes that these can be bought without joining the queue.

  • Miso ramen — the shop's self-described "most popular item," a rich, orthodox Sapporo miso
  • Frozen miso ramen for takeaway — large portions available (official X)
  • Boxed ramen gift set (2 servings) / Sumire All Stars cup noodles — purchasable without queuing (official X)

Tips for visiting

Hours are 11:00–15:00 and 17:00–20:30 from Tuesday to Saturday, and 11:00–16:00 and 17:00–20:00 on Sundays and public holidays; each service ends early once the broth runs out. The regular closing day is Monday (the next day instead when Monday is a holiday), but the official X account posts a closure calendar every month, and has opened on a Monday during Golden Week while taking a different day off. Checking the latest post on X before you set out is the surest approach.

Payment is cash only — the official site states plainly that cards and electronic money are not accepted. Reservations are not taken and all seats are non-smoking. There is no car park, though coin parking is available across the street. To find it, follow the road between Funabori Station and Funabori Tower to the southeast; the shop comes into view on your right after Funabori Sports Park (696 m from the station).
